Another Attempt At Catching Up!

Well, we're doing what we said we weren't going to do!  We told ourselves that we would try and keep this blog up to date but it just hasn't happened.  We don't know where the time goes but for some reason, we have had other priorities.  We discovered that blogger has taken all our music off the blog and that was a bummer.  We may have to buy Beverly a juke box to put old 45's in so she can listen to her heart's content! We enjoyed listening to our favorite songs on here, but we'll just have to get over it and move on. A lot has happened in the past months that we want to have on record so here we go again.

The year started with the county stock show followed by the start of the major show season for Taylor and for Jordan's "kids" in Abilene.  Having spent the past 35 plus years around stock shows you would think we would have grown tired of it.  But when your grandson starts showing, it's game on again!  We enjoyed going to the Ft. Worth Show with heifers, steers and barrows.  Taylor showed an Angus heifer, a Hereford steer and Jordan's little's showed barrows (a brother and his older sister that Jordan and Ashley mentor in the Big Brother program in Abilene).  It was a great learning experience for Taylor, but the best part was the cinnamon rolls that we have eaten for years.  As they say, this thing and the rolls are legendary!!

When it came time for the San Antonio Show, we opted out of going and kept Leighton so that Jordan and Ashley could go.  It was a wise choice since we were able to watch the shows streamed live on the computer.  Jordan's barrow almost won his class, ending up second in a close placing in the heavy weight dark crosses.  It was exciting to see him do so well.  We also watched Taylor show his Shorthorn but again he didn't make the premium sale. Presley celebrated her 5th birthday during the time Leighton was here.  She had a party at a local bakery. They decorated cupcakes and enjoyed a fun time with friends. Later she had another family party at home.

Leighton celebrated her 2nd birthday in March with a party in Abilene.  Ashley and Jordan did a great job putting it together and she had a ball with cousins and friends.  Later in the month Leighton came for another visit during the Houston Livestock Show.  Once again we were able to watch the show on line. Heck, we may never go to another one in person again.  Taylor showed his last steer and was pulled by the judge but again did not make the sale.

Jeremy, Annie, Jane and Jack came to Austin in April for Annie's sisters wedding.  It was a great opportunity to just stay in the background and enjoy Jane and Jack.  In the meantime we helped Jerry and Terry pack up for their move back to California.  We celebrated Easter.....and in May we celebrated Jordan's birthday and took Leighton to the zoo for a fun day while Mom caught up on some photography.

During the summer we went to see The Lone Ranger, which we enjoyed..but it sure wasn't the same Lone Ranger we grew up with when we were kids!  Presley and Taylor visit the library pretty often and Nancy, the local librarian even lets her check out her own books!  A trip to Austin was a fun time to see Miz Helm, Beverly's friend and former boss (at The Mark when she was in high school) and go out to lunch.  She is 92 years young!  Beverly had a birthday in July and we surprised her with tickets to The Lion King this fall in Dallas.  She started out her day with breakfast at Central Perk, followed by pampering and a manicure by her daughter. Then we enjoyed dinner at Cactus Grill in Meridian and Knock You Naked brownies and fireworks with the kids in the country!!

We found time for a trip to Denver to see the Colorado bunch, enjoy the mountains and spoil the grand kids. One evening after dinner we took a little trip over to Golden and up Lookout Mountain for some sight seeing.  Jeremy was trying out their new car and he knows we like the views, especially his Mother! We went to Georgetown, Colorado and Idaho Springs and enjoyed (did I say enjoy?) a hike up Herman's Gulch so we could get our heart rate up! We ended the day with our traditional pizza dinner at Beau Jo's in Idaho Springs. Jeremy and Annie surprised us with dinner reservations for Bev's birthday and Father's Day at a really nice restaurant called Opus in Denver.

On the way home we stopped and spent the night with Jordan and Ashley who sold their house and were in the process of moving.  We helped them pack and put some things in storage.  The next morning Leighton was ready to hit the doughnut shop with us while Ashley made a few calls.  We have to admit they were pretty good!

Now, its about time for school to start and this year we'll have two more in school; Presley in kindergarten and Leighton in Mother's Day Out two mornings a week!  Time moves on and so must we. Before long it'll be time to go jeeping in Colorado!!  The mountains are calling and we must go!!!
