Remington's Baby Shower

Here are a few pictures from the baby shower for Remington.

Taylor Turns Eleven As Time Flies By

It's hard to believe that Taylor turned eleven in November!  Really?  Where were we when all of this was happening?  But, we know it's true but it doesn't make it easier to accept.  Taylor said he doesn't want to grow up but we know it's inevitable!  We had a party for him and Jennifer played a little trick on him and put these candles on his cake that you can't blow out!   It was fun to watch his reaction.  He wanted things for his new room so he got a comfy chair that he loves and of course a few practical things like clothes and new sheets for his bunk beds!

Happy Birthday Taylor.  You light up our lives!!

If It Wasn't For Don Williams.......

Back up 40 years ago and Don Williams was in his prime.  So was I for that matter.  But enough about me! What's really important is that Don Williams was involved in persuading Beverly to marry me.  Well, to be honest one of his songs might have helped turn the tide in my favor.

When Beverly and I met she really wasn't that crazy about me.  I know, that might be hard to believe, but she wasn't.  So, I had to come up with some innovative ways to help her understand that she really did want to spend her life with the likes of me!  So, I would come over and play my guitar and sing to her, trying my hardest to show her how much I liked her.   The song that did it and eventually became "our" song was Don Williams' "You're My Best Friend."  All our children know this story and understand that this song pretty well sums up our life and feelings toward each other.  So, now after 39 years of marriage, we still consider it pretty special.

That being said, Jordan surprised us with tickets to see him when he came to Abilene last November.  It was a wonderful concert as his music brought back so many memories of songs that have been favorites of ours for years.  Don is not physically in his prime anymore, nor am I, but he is still a master at singing those old favorites.  He is a man of few spoken words, but speaks beautifully through his singing.  Thanks Jordan and Ashley for a great date!

A Visit With Aunt Billee

Every family has that one person that's the life of the party, the center of attention, the, shall we say "character!"  On Beverly's side of the family one such person is her Aunt Billee.  Billee is her last living aunt, her dad's last sibling.  She has had an interesting life, lived in San Pedro, California, New Orleans, Louisiana and now Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She has seen her share of grief, losing a young son to a drunk driver, a teenage grandson also killed in a car accident and has buried two husbands and numerous siblings and friends.  But, she maintains a positive attitude, never stops learning new things and really has a sharp mind, and tongue, occasionally!

We took a few days last fall to visit her and also go and check on some land in Oklahoma that Beverly's parents owned.  Instead of our usual route up through the metro-mess, we decided to take some less traveled roads.  It was well worth the change and we loved the back roads of Oklahoma.  Later in the week we took a trip to the Gore, Vian and Sallisaw area to check out some land records at the courthouse and to visit the old "home place" where Bev's dad was born and raised.

While at Billee's, she wanted to learn how to use her iPad!  I told you she never wants to stop learning.  She learned how to email and use the internet and immediately wanted to email her grandson in Kuwait!  We also took her to look at new iPhones!  Oh, did I mention she's 93?  Still young considering that her mother lived to be 107!

A visit to the old, beautiful Vian cemetery where Papa Bill Hefton is buried.

Random Fall Pictures

Since our blog is basically used as a journal for our family, sometimes it requires posting a few random pictures without a lot of explanation.  Here are a few shots of various late summer to early fall happenings around the Jeepers Creepers household.  You'll notice there are no fall jeeping pictures this year because we didn't get to go!  But I did include a few pictures of Jeremy's climb on Long's Peak with a few of his fellow mountain climbers just so there would be some Colorado scenery.
