I just rediscovered our old Blog and it has been so much fun looking back at all the things that we did all the way back to 2008. To say that things have changed in both our lives would be an understatement.
Aside from the normal aging process, our children and especially our grandchildren have grown up and are leading their own active lives. As for Bev and me, there have been significant health issues but we continue to carry on as best we can.
During my "blog time off" I have had both knees replaced and had carpal tunnel release surgery on my right hand. I wish I had done the left hand at the same time because I need it done now! But the most troubling issue is that our sweet Beverly was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2023. Following her bout with breast cancer in 2016 complete with chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, we noticed she was having trouble remembering things.
First we thought it was a side effect of the chemo, commonly known as brain fog. However, after a while her oncologist said that should not be a problem. Following brain scans and cognitive tests the diagnosis was pretty clear. She was going into early onset dementia. I don't like to go over the particular details that we have gone through but as on now she is on hospice care, mostly in bed and I am her daily care giver.
It has been a learning process and a lot of tears have been shed. But thanks to family, friends and our hospice caregiver, we are surviving. It's not easy but at least she can stay at home with me as long as I can take care of her and I prefer that to a nursing facility. I'm not sure we could afford it very long anyway.
I will make individual blog posts in the future about things that have happened over the last five years and rely on my phone to remind me through pictures what I'm missing. There probably aren't many people that will read this blog but someday our family will appreciate this little bit of history that we left for them!
