Summer Trip To Cool Colorado and Sam's Birthday

Sam, our youngest grand child turned 2 in August, 2017.  Remember, we are still trying to get caught up with this blog thing!  We usually don't need much of an excuse to go to Colorado in the summer.  So, we took a late July trip to Jeremy and Annie's to celebrate a birthday and to see everyone before school started!

We enjoyed the visit, the trip out to the big airport, eating at Buckhorn Exchange and playing with the kiddos.  Denver is a beautiful city and it's always fun to see new sights!

Now, that's a bird cage.  We took a little time and drove around a few
minutes in the old Colorado town of Trinidad.  We pass by there on I-25 all the
time but never stop.  It's really pretty downtown.

Colorado towns have some of the prettiest flowers, probably because they have cooler nights!

A beautiful rainbow between Trinidad and Pueblo.

Looks that I'm thinking, "What are we doing in this country, Gus?"
I think it's a Lonesome Dove quote, paraphrased!

Sam, the birthday man, excited to see his Bebe and Papaw!

Sam at first had a love/hate relationship with the gift we brought him.  He loves
trains but at first he wasn't sure about the bubbles.  That changed quickly and
soon he was dancing a crazy dance as the bubbles came out of the engine!

Coming up to the Denver International Airport.....

Is it an Indian camp?  No, but it reminds us of a scene from the plains
where you might expect to see something like this.

This is inside the airport, where it looks like  it's covered with this big canvas.

Airport watching, a fun pastime.

The architectural firm that Jeremy works for designed the airport.  Fentress
is a leader in designing airports world wide.

A view out of the end of the airport.

Lots of support under that heavy top.

Ready to pick up our frequent flyer!  Not!

A fun lunch at Buckhorn Exchange!

Beverly and I love to eat here.  This is an old establishment located near
downtown.  It is filled with thousands of interesting items including all types
of taxidermy mounts, gun collections and a history of the wild west.

Raccoons in a birch canoe.  It's a common sight in Denver!

Yum...

Bev's favorite, the salmon!

We found this cozy booth out of the way in a corner, but the lunch crowd
soon filled up around us.

Jack and Jane

Had to buy me a new Buckhorn Exchange cap before leaving!

Annie got us involved in an art project using melted crayons and a hair dryer!  Our
masterpiece hangs in the office above the desk.

We think it added some color to our picture collection!

A Phillips original!  What's your bid to own this masterpiece?

We went to a recreation center in Littleton and let the kids swim!

Annie and the two older kids.

Beautiful flowers in the Aspen Grove shopping center; one of our favorites!

Danny, "Can we build one of these at home"

The kids had to show us their skills on their bicycle and scooter.

On the last day, we were able to get out and watch the kids play.

He's wondering why I have his special blanket!

Dinner is ready.  I must have surprised him from that look on his face!

This musical train also blew bubbles.  Scared at first, Sam soon learned to
dance around the room when the train started it's very monotonous song!

"Are you kidding me?"  Another new Leggo set?  He loves them and is really good
at putting them together, just like his Daddy was!

Jeremy and Annie were gracious enough to give up their bed for us.  They
opted to sleep on the futon in the living room so we could be comfortable!

Jane, like Bebe, loves to color.  She spent a lot of time coloring in her
new book that we gave her.

Jack had this Leggo kit put together in no time at all.  Notice his standard, fake grin!
It's like, would you go ahead and take the picture so I can get back to something important!

Papaw explaining the workings of Sam's new steam/bubble engine.

We had a little time to play together.  It was a fun trip but it was time to head
home the next morning.

I think our visit was just too much!

A sample of Jeremy's water color work.  He doesn't have much time to
practice, but we think it is very good.

Sam wanted to ride Papaw's horse.  He is pretty light but it gets heavy after a while!

Sam, lost in thought over his train.

If Jack has any Leggo questions, he goes to the expert.

The three stooges....

Brushing those teeth after a day of sweets.

Jack and a real smile this time.

I really can't explain this.  You had to be there!

Our gracious hosts!  Thanks for having us!
