Stock Shows 2018

A lot of our life has revolved around livestock shows.  First as a County Agent, then as parents, and now as grandparents.  People have asked us if we miss those good old days and the quick answer is, no, not really!  Oh, we miss the days when our own kids were showing but not all of the stress that goes along with supervising of others and the expense that goes along with showing.

However, our grand kids are showing now and we love to see them succeed.  But, talk about stress and nerves!  We think it's worse with grand kids than it was with our own.  Taylor has been showing six years now and Presley has shown 2 years.  Leighton isn't old enough to show at the big shows except for jackpot shows and her local chapter show.  They've all had success of varying degrees.  Here's a rundown of the 2018 shows.

Presley, washing and blowing out one of the steers prior to the county show.
She looks cold and distracted.

At the county show, two of their steers ended up in the same class.  Oh the competition
between brother and sister!

Presley and her big 1,500 pound steer that later placed 3rd in Ft. Worth!

This is a screen shot from the Sale of Champions at the Ft. Worth Show.

Hamilton FFA had 4 steers in this class and placed 3 of them in the top 10.
The sad part was that Taylor's steer was the one left out of the sale.

A really proud moment for Presley and the family.  Her steer brought over
$10.00 per pound in the sale.

At the San Antonio show, Presley showed Taylor's steer that was Reserve Champion
at our county show.  She placed one out of the sale, the so called "crying hole"

I don't have a picture of Taylor's steer at San Antonio, but he also placed one out
of the sale as well, but it was meant to be, since that steer went on to Houston and......

placed 2nd there with Presley at the halter!

Taylor's steer that Presley had shown at San Antonio also made the sale at
Houston!  Confusing isn't it?  This was their best overall year since they both started showing!

The proof is in the picture!  Everybody that ever touched this steer got into the picture!

You don't get many of those red rosettes!

This is one of our favorite pictures!  "Though she be but little, she is fierce", I
think that's Shakespeare!

Leighton had a great day at her first Wylie FFA Chapter Show in Abilene.

Pretty proud of those second place ribbons against some stiff
competition from the high school kids!

Looks like Dad was pretty pleased as well.  I can see a great
future for these two in the years to come.

Let's not forget the main man!
